It is truly a privilege to testify to the power of Truth, and I want to say that I am a living witness of its healing power. It was brought to me when I was standing in the very shadow of death. I became a student of Christian Science twenty-eight years ago after I had suffered many things and tried many physicians, finally to be left with the verdict, "We have done all we can." While standing in the shadow, with nothing else to turn to, I asked for help in Christian Science, and was healed. This healing took place twenty-eight years ago and has been permanent.
I should like to relate one of my experiences. My two sons and I were staying at the beach. One night at dinner a bone lodged crosswise in my throat, and each time I swallowed it seemed to go deeper. I said nothing, for my family was not friendly toward Christian Science. I left the room and tried to clear my throat, but without success. I went to bed early, to be alone with my thoughts, and felt perfectly safe, knowing that God is able to remove mountains. I went to sleep, to be awakened in the night with terrific pain in the throat, which seemed almost closed, and I feared I was choking.
I asked God over and over to free me from the fear that appeared to hold power, and again fell asleep, to awake with the thought that I must have help. I applied myself to the realization of Truth, was able to quiet the fear, and slept. When I next awoke it was morning, the sun was shining, and the throat condition was entirely healed. The bone had disappeared. There was no swelling and no evidence of anything having been wrong. God alone knows how grateful I was for this healing. I said nothing, but to me it was a day of great rejoicing. It was another proof that without doubt Christian Science does heal, and that with radical reliance on God and standing firm in Truth we can do the works that Jesus did.
