For some time I have wished to give my testimony to the healing power of Truth. For many years I had searched for the "pearl of great price," but had never been quite satisfied. After I had been confined to my bed for seven weeks with a malady that the attending physicians were unable to name and the death sentence had been passed upon me, a cherished friend called and asked me if I had ever considered divine healing. I told her that I had, but that I wanted to be healed as Jesus healed —no material remedies thrown in. She promised to send me a Christian Science Sentinel which she had borrowed, and requested that I return it as soon as possible. With what receptivity did I wait for it! The next morning it came. I was indeed hungering and thirsting for righteousness (Rightness) and I was filled. Only a few minutes after I began reading I plainly felt an internal misplacement slip back into place, and I was free. Soon afterward I arose, dressed, and walked out to the barn and back, alone and unaided but for the ever-presence of our Father-Mother God. This was done over frozen ground and ice in northern Indiana in March, 1907.
I have never spent a whole day in bed since. I have had many trials, but have been able for the most part to overcome them myself through the study of the Bible and of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, together with the understanding and intelligence drawn from divine Mind.
A few days after my healing, I purchased the textbook, and it has been my constant companion ever since. It is most assuredly a "key" to the Scriptures. I am very grateful for the Christian Science Quarterly.
