In deep gratitude to God for His goodness and for the revelation, through Christian Science, of man's unity with Him, I relate the following experience which occurred twenty years ago, and which has continued, through the years, to give me courage and faith in good.
At that time I was employed as a court stenographer. The term of court was unusually long. The docket being heavy, the sessions began an hour earlier and continued an hour later each day than was usual. I became exhausted and began to think I could not possibly carry on until the close of the term. One morning, shortly before the noon recess, my right hand and arm became cramped and so painful I could no longer grasp my pen. I called a Christian Science practitioner, and asked her to work for me right away and told her that as soon as a substitute was located to take my place I should go to my room and to bed.
In a little over an hour I was informed that no substitute was available, and that the court would have to go on. In tears and misery I called the practitioner again. I shall never forget her words. She said: "You cannot possibly be required to do anything which you are not fully able to do. If you are called into the courtroom, take your place." In a very few minutes I was called and I took my place. With my left hand I painfully pushed my right hand toward my pen. As my fingers touched the pen they relaxed, and all pain, discomfort, and weariness instantly fled. I worked the long afternoon in complete freedom, and finished the term with ease.—Los Angeles, California.
