It is with a profound sense of gratitude and the hope that it may bring encouragement to others, that I submit the following testimony of the healing of neurasthenia through the ministrations of Christian Science. This condition threatened to bring much unhappiness and limitation into my life, and to cause great worry to those whom I most wished to help. It took almost a year for a complete healing to be realized, yet during those months I was enabled to carry on, and I believe only three people—my parents and a dear friend and practitioner—knew of the struggle that was taking place.
When the healing finally came, it was so complete that all false mental pictures of, suffering were completely wiped out, and a greater sense of health, happiness, and freedom than I had previously known resulted. For the patient, consecrated work of the practitioner and for the understanding love received at home I am most grateful.
An experience which I had during this time brought great encouragement. One night when sleeplessness, fear, and suffering were particularly rampant, I thought of a healing of influenza which I had experienced through turning to the Lord's Prayer. I had repeated the first line and had immediately thought of the beautifully reassuring words in the Master's parable of the prodigal son (Luke 15:31), "Son, thou art ever with me." Now, when the need seemed greater, I again turned to God with the prayer (Matt. 6:9), "Our Father, which art in heaven," recalling, too, the verse, "Son, thou art ever with me." Further enlightenment came when I opened the Bible to this promise (IChron. 23:25): "For David said. The Lord God of Israel hath given rest unto his people, that they may dwell in Jerusalem for ever." It was then I perceived the truth about God and man, and the fact of God's present and continuous care for His children. The study of these three statements, together with the last part of the Glossary definition of "Jerusalem" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 589) healed the fear, and brought a much needed sense of quietness and confidence.
