For some time I have felt a deep sense...

From the April 1945 issue of The Christian Science Journal

For some time I have felt a deep sense of disquietude over the fact that procrastination was robbing me of the opportunity of expressing my gratitude for Christian Science through the pages of our periodicals. Every time the thought came to me to express gratitude in writing the excuse always presented itself that I had frequently given testimonies at Wednesday evening meetings and thus had fulfilled my moral obligation to others (Manual of The Mother Church, by Mrs. Eddy, Art. VIII, Sect. 24).

One day, however, I was guided to the following passage in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 372): "If pride, superstition, or any error prevents the honest recognition of benefits received, this will be a hindrance to the recovery of the sick and the success of the student." From that moment on, I knew that error could no longer prevent me from acknowledging in writing the manifold benefits that have come to me through the study and application of Christian Science.

I turned to this wonderful and sustaining truth in 1922 for the healing of grief caused by the passing on of my mother. Although the circumstances were tragic, I was completely lifted above the outward seeming and was able to prove the truth of our Leader's words (ibid., p. 584), "Any material evidence of death is false, for it contradicts the spiritual facts of being."
