I did not come to Christian Science for physical healing; however, I have had many proofs of its healing efficacy, as well as protection against disease and accidents, during the past fifteen years. I was reared by parents who were devoted to their church, but I was unable to find in my religious training the way to combat discouragement, limitation, and fear. In Christian Science I found the way, and also learned to understand and love God.
I have been forced many times to prove my God-given dominion over untoward circumstances. I have not always been able at the moment to be grateful for the problem, but later, when the smoke of battle cleared somewhat, I have seen each experience as an opportunity to enlarge and clarify my vision of the Christ, Truth.
While serving as Second Reader in a branch church, I was healed of grief and separation at the sudden passing on of my mother, and also when my husband passed on in a similar manner several months later, by realizing that "nothing that lives ever dies, and vice versa" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 374). The truth of other statements from the works of our beloved Leader also helped me, and by claiming the promises in the ninety-first Psalm, especially the fifteenth verse, "He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him," I found comfort. I repeatedly declared, "I have called on Thee, God, and I am answered," until peace flooded my consciousness and I was able to carry on my work without interruption. I am grateful for loving friends who stand by during testing times.
