Many times I have felt that I should express in writing my gratitude for the numerous proofs of God's care I have had. Now I feel compelled to do so, hoping someone may be helped as I have been by reading the experiences of others.
My first healing was of cancer. There have been others too numerous to mention. But the following experience has left me more grateful than ever before. I was alone in the house, and after reading until dusk I walked from the living room through the dining room into the kitchen. I had gone only a few steps into the kitchen when my left leg became powerless, with the exception of being able to bear my weight partially. By holding onto the furniture, I returned to the dining room and went to a table on which were my Bible, Science and Health, and the Christian Science Quarterly. I leaned on the table and grasped the books, declaring, "God is here and error cannot touch me." I had a strong desire to lie down, but this thought came to me: "Do not lie down; that is just what error wants you to do, to lie down and give up." I knew that mortal mind was suggesting that I had had a stroke of paralysis and was becoming unconscious. I knew if I gave in to this I could not work in Science. I declared, "God's Word 'is quick, and powerful,' to destroy any false claim, and error has no power or presence."
It was a fast and furious battle. I had allowed error to talk back in the past, but now there was no time for argument. I knew my time was short unless I repudiated this claim with Truth. Although I was fearful, I had never felt God's presence so fully before. I could not cry out for human help and I seemed to be passing on. But God was there, and I knew I needed no other help. In a few minutes I was entirely free and able to walk normally.
