A few years ago my young son passed on. He had been my reason for coming into Christian Science, after medical research had failed to help or heal him. In the beginning he was helped a great deal, as were all members of the family. Then, as a result of some very unusual circumstances, I lost my way in Science. At a crucial point in my son's illness he passed on. Mrs. Eddy says in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 116), "If in one instance obedience be lacking, you lose the scientific rule and its reward."
After a few months, my intense grief developed into a state of mental illness which threatened me momentarily with total oblivion, and I seemed helpless to do anything about it. Finally, my husband said: "You know there is nothing in medical science that can heal a broken heart. There must be someone in the Christian Science movement who can meet your need." Then I remembered a lecturer whom I had heard and once met, and I knew that if anyone could help me it would be he.
I spent all that afternoon writing to him. I told him everything from the beginning of my son's illness to the day of writing that I thought might have any bearing on the case and upon my own condition. I mailed the letter on a Monday morning; on the following Thursday morning I awakened completely healed. Only those who have been so blessed could possibly know what such an experience is like. The following Tuesday morning I received a letter from this practitioner and was grateful to see that he had received and answered my letter on the previous Thursday morning—my healing had been instantaneous!
