Testimonies of Healing

Christian Science has met all our...

From the May 1946 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science has met all our needs for sixteen years. There have been many problems and many trying times in the rearing of three children. Burns, colds, headache, toothache, whooping cough, chicken pox, measles, mumps, ringworm, sprains, goiter, and many other physical inharmonies, as well as lack, worry, and unhappiness have all been met when the truth has been earnestly and scientifically applied. "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." This our beloved Leader tells us on page 494 of Science and Health, and it has been proved in our experience.

At one time our son was sent home from school by the nurse with a note saying the city health doctor would call at the house. The boy's hands and feet were peeling, and his hands had become unsightly. When the doctor arrived he examined the child very thoroughly, and asked many questions. He seemed quite puzzled. The child had not manifested any of the symptoms he inquired about. Finally he said: "You know there is only one disease that causes peeling such as this, and it is very evident that he has not that fever. But I am at a loss to know what to tell you to do." We told him that we knew what to do, and asked him to tell us how long the child had to stay out of school. "Only until the unsightly condition is cleared up," he said. This took place on a Friday afternoon. We spent the week end with our Christian Science books, and the Hymnal. On Monday morning the child's hands and feet were covered with new skin. He was taken to the school nurse. She examined him and expressed amazement, then said he was all right and should remain in school.

When the children were young they quickly learned to declare the truth when anything went wrong. "God is Love" seemed to meet their needs. One day our daughter was playing with her doll and doll buggy on the sidewalk. A neighbor's little boy was playing with her. Somehow the buggy got tipped over and her fingers were caught between the handle of the buggy and the cement sidewalk. She came into the house crying very hard. The blood was coming through three of the fingernails. She was quietly reminded that she had forgotten something important. Immediately she declared, "God is Love." She stopped crying, and we talked about Truth and Love while washing her hand. By that time all pain had ceased, and she was ready to go back outdoors to play. There was no more pain, and there were no complications. In a very short time new nails had grown out.
