My heart overflows with gratitude to God for Christian Science, because I have proved in my own experience its efficacy in healing and restoring happiness.
One outstanding healing occurred about two years ago. I was stricken with a painful eye trouble, and could not read. I asked a practitioner for help, which was lovingly given. None of my household were Christian Scientists, and the family insisted I call an eye specialist. I pleaded to be allowed a fair opportunity to have Christian Science treatment, so no medical diagnosis or remedy was resorted to; I depended entirely upon Christian Science. The healing was not immediate; weeks of work were required to overcome the symptoms of the disease, as well as the fear of those around me. I was greatly helped, but the healing was not complete.
The "still small voice" within me kept repeating, "Greater consecration is needed on your part." I prayed God to help me renew my consecration to Truth and Love. Suddenly, when a loved one in the family became seriously ill, I talked with the practitioner, who, to help me, advised that I take Science and Health, open it and keep it open, and read what I could. I did this. At first I could read only two or three lines, but I kept reading at intervals and filling my consciousness with the truth. I continued to read for several weeks, and I found I was reading not only a few lines but an entire page. I also started to study the Lesson. I had found how to renew my consecration to God, and, lo, I was healed!
