With the deepest gratitude, I give this testimony of the healing power of Christian Science. Twenty-three years ago I was hurt in an automobile accident. Both hips were broken, my back was wrenched, and I was injured internally. After X rays and examinations the doctors said they did not see how I could possibly live, but if I did, I would be a helpless cripple all the rest of my life. My sister got in touch with a Christian Science practitioner, who started working for me at once. The first week I suffered quite a bit, but after that there was no pain whatsoever. In three weeks I began to sit up a little; in five weeks I began to walk, and a few days later was walking well. I could even go up and down stairs without help. The doctors said they had never had a patient who had made such rapid progress. They also told me that I could never have children, because the bones that were broken would not operate properly at childbirth. I am very happy to say I have since had three healthy children. Each had a natural birth under Christian Science treatment, another great proof of God's power.
At another time I was brought back from "the valley of the shadow of death" when I was healed of gall bladder trouble. My little girl was only three weeks old when I had a severe attack. I began to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and tried to help myself. I grew steadily worse, however, and in a day or so my husband, becoming alarmed, called a doctor. After examining me, the doctor said I was in a critical condition, and would have to be taken to the hospital to be operated on immediately. He told my husband that I could not live without this operation, and that my chances for recovery were very poor, as I was still weak from childbirth. I had not taken any nourishment for three days, not being able to retain any.
I refused to go to the hospital, so a practitioner was called. She told me to have no fear; that my need was not for an operation, because I was in God's care. I rested well that night, and by the next day was able to eat liquid foods. In less than a week I was eating solid foods. The healing was complete, and there has never been a return of the trouble, for, as we know in Christian Science, there can be no reversal of God's work.
