True peace is not a thing to buy or win:
It is already present as a fact
In spite of raging war, disease, and sin,
In spite of storm, earthquake, and cataract.
The Principle of order has not failed
To manifest its peace since time began;
"In the beginning" means that peace is hailed
As basis for creation's perfect plan.
One does not bring this peace to hill and glen:
It is a primal state. "Let there be light"
Reveals its presence to discerning men
Who recognize its actual truth and might.
One does not make true peace; one but removes
Whatever has disturbed a natural calm,
And ever through the law of order proves
That peace prevails through clamor and alarm.
The heart's sweet peace is not beyond control
When threatened with disaster, pain, or grief;
One may attain tranquillity of Soul
And gain the quietude that brings relief
By lifting thought above the claims of sense
And knowing what is learned through wisdom's part—
That God as Principle is present, hence
True peace exists to bless the trusting heart.
The Prince of Peace destroyed the angry roar
Of earth's contentions by his "Peace, be still,"
And quieted the storm with nothing more
Than understanding of the Father's will.
Peace is the world's eternal harmony
For hearts to claim and demonstrate as true,
Acknowledged by the Man of Galilee
In benediction, "Peace I leave with you."
