To those uninstructed in Christian Science the great truth that God does not and cannot know evil is a part of what St. Paul calls "the mystery of godliness." In the light of Christian Science, however, this mystery is dispelled, and one sees in its place a logical, scientific, and demonstrable truth. God to be God must be infinite; to be creative cause He must be good; therefore He can know only good, never evil. All honest and truly reasoning thinkers must agree to this premise.
Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, agreed to it and by adhering uncompromisingly to her text was able to demonstrate its immediate and immutable verity. On page 367 of her book "Miscellaneous Writings" she says: "If God is infinite good, He knows nothing but good; if He did know aught else, He would not be infinite. Infinite Mind knows nothing beyond Himself or Herself." And farther on in the same paragraph she continues: "It was not against evil, but against knowing evil, that God forewarned. He dwelleth in light; and in the light He sees light, and cannot see darkness." What God, divine Mind, does not know, does not exist to be known. What Mind knows, is true and veritable. It eternally exists and is eternally made manifest.
He who best knew what God knows, and who demonstrated it most clearly, was Christ Jesus. Through his ministry of enlightenment and healing he revealed to men that which God knows and maintains as real. He always claimed as his own that knowledge of God and God's good will. He said: "I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that his commandment is life everlasting." Again he said, "As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father." And knowing what the Father knows, he vanquished every mythical ill that ignorance claimed to present and annulled the false material laws that ignorance imposes upon men. On page 201 of "Miscellaneous Writings" we read, "When Jesus reproduced his body after its burial, he revealed the myth or material falsity of evil; its powerlessness to destroy good, and the omnipotence of the Mind that knows this."
