In my quest to find the only true God I was led to investigate Christian Science, which I did by reading through several times the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Then, knowing that it is the truth, I applied for membership in a Christian Science Society. Much growth in spiritual understanding was gained as a result of the privileges afforded me of serving in this society.
At one time I allowed a sense of injustice and fear to enter my thought and became completely helpless almost overnight. A dear one immediately made arrangements for a Christian Science nurse and an ambulance. While we drove from the city in which I had been staying to my home, we had a happy trip, singing Christian Science hymns all the way. Later, because of the tenacity of the paralysis, I became weakened and emaciated. I could only cling to the Lord's Prayer with its spiritual interpretation, which our Leader has given us in Science and Health (pp. 16, 17). This also helped those in the home who were fearful that I would pass on.
I am unceasingly grateful for two statements made to me during this trial. First, I was told that all that had taken place while the Hebrew boys were in the furnace was that their bonds were burned away, and that, likewise, that was all that was taking place in my consciousness—I was undergoing a process of purification and only the bonds of materiality were being burned away. Secondly, I was told that just as the children of Israel were taken all the way through the Red Sea and were not left helpless, so, too, God would not leave me helpless, but would take me all the way through.
