MAKING REQUIREMENTS OPPORTUNITIES

[Of Special Interest to Young People]

From the August 1949 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Every college student knows that there are certain required subjects in any curriculum. While the acquiring of a formal education or academic degree is a worthwhile endeavor, students of Christian Science sometimes find that they are not exempted from taking certain subjects which are wholly opposed to their religious views. For this reason, one earnest student deferred taking physiology, one requirement of her course, as long as possible. She knew its theories conflicted with the truths of Christian Science. Her religious background, from the time she was a baby, had instilled in her consciousness invariable truths regarding God and man, His spiritual idea.

To apply herself conscientiously to this subject, and yet make no compromise with the material concept of man, which her daily study of Christian Science completely refuted, seemed impossible. Conflicting thoughts clouded her consciousness, and she became confused and discouraged.

Many times problems set before her and her mother had been considered in the light of Christian Science and a solution found through the study of the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. The young student knew that there was a solution for the problem she now faced.
