What do we really know about man's origin and background? This is a question well worth pondering. Materialists, tirelessly seeking to mitigate the world's discords, are probing for their cause into the background, past history, or origin of mortal man. They theorize that mortals are only what their human origins and environment make them. These theories claim that men suffer, develop inferiority complexes, and become frustrated victims of circumstances over which they have no control, because of their past mortal history, environment, education or want of it, or the foibles and failures of human parentage and relationships.
But God, the one and only Father-Mother, created man as the image of His infinite being. The true record of man's origin is in Genesis 1:27: "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." God, the creative Principle, gives man life, health, strength, love, intelligence, and holiness, and these qualities constitute his true individuality. No disease, no binding or burdensome traits of human character, but only the fullness of God's love is bestowed on His child, whose true status is spirituality, peace, and perfection.
In the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy writes regarding material creation and birth (p. 529), "Another change will come as to the nature and origin of man, and this revelation will destroy the dream of existence, reinstate reality, usher in Science and the glorious fact of creation, that both man and woman proceed from God and are His eternal children, belonging to no lesser parent." Here briefly is man's true origin or background and the source of his being, according to Christian Science. He belongs to "no lesser parent" than the Father-Mother God.
