From the August 1949 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Over thirty years ago I asked an uncle of mine to take me to the Christian Science Sunday School. I was a very religious young person, and I liked the way he talked about God. Since that time Christian Science has brought me many reasons for gratitude. Numerous healings have come about through the application of this demonstrable truth. A severe case of athlete's foot was healed at a lecture on Christian Science without any specific treatment being given. Two days before the lecture this condition appeared in a peculiarly distressing form. I was quite alarmed because another member of my family had been doctoring a similar condition for several years without success. During the course of the lecture the condition was removed from consciousness so completely that it was several days before I thought of it again and realized that the healing had taken place. That was sixteen years ago, and the healing has been permanent.

An example of the mental surgery possible in Christian Science brought us much joy. Our six-year-old daughter had a most unsightly growth in one of the nostrils which was very noticeable. We held to the statement found on page 463 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive." Part of the growth came away, but the healing was not complete; so I asked a practitioner for help. The next morning the growth was gone. In the place where it had been was a small cut as if a sharp instrument had been used. This disappeared shortly. This experience was a beautiful proof of God's omnipotence, which we have always cherished.

Christian Science has healed me of tonsillitis, lumbago, extreme fatigue, and minor ills. It has sustained me in sorrow and proved beyond a shadow of doubt that "each successive stage of experience unfolds new views of divine goodness and love" (ibid., p. 66).—
