Mary:
"I do rejoice to have him safe again;
And yet I know that he is always safe.
I could have saved myself the fear and pain:
His 'Father's house' is just where he would be.
This child of God—he is no helpless waif!
'My Father's business.' Why does he speak so?
I sometimes see within my memory
The little packs of myrrh and frankincense
The Wisemen gave him many years ago.
There yet is much I do not understand:
The mist that veils the years ahead is dense.
I know that he is sweet and good and wise,
That he will be the glory of the race.
That there is none like him in all the land.
I saw the hidden radiance in his face
When he was talking with the doctors there.
He is so young, yet seems to realize
More clearly than the learned teachers do
God's presence and His tender, loving care
And how our faith springs ever fresh and new."
