Testimonies of Healing

I have always wondered, since I had...

From the October 1951 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I have always wondered, since I had class instruction, why gratitude for this glorious experience is usually the last rather than the first statement of most Christian Science testimonies. To me class instruction has been the greatest blessing that has come to me since I first started the study of Christian Science more than thirty years ago. It has made me have more confidence in the Bible promises; it has awakened in me a greater appreciation for Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science; it has given me a more practical knowledge of how to apply the Science of Christianity to everyday problems.

I could never tell of all the wonderful things that Christian Science has done for me or of what I have seen it do for others. It has transformed me from a sickly, unhappy person into one who is seldom ill or unhappy. This change was not accomplished all at once, but in the degree that I have applied my understanding of this Science I have found it bringing added harmony into my daily experience. Through solving each problem that has arisen I have learned more of the one perfect God and of man in His image and likeness.

I should like to tell of a few of the outstanding healings I have experienced. Several years ago I was working in an office in which there was only one other person interested in Science and many who were much opposed to it. One day I was suddenly stricken with what was diagnosed as a streptococcic throat. A girl who had been a nurse insisted upon examining the throat and urged me to go immediately to a hospital rather than home, as she said the throat was so badly infected that it must be lanced. However, instead of following her advice, I asked the other Scientist to call a practitioner and then take me home, which she did. As soon as I reached home, I called the practitioner and told her what had been said. She quieted my fears by quoting to me the passage from the epistle to the Hebrews (4:12), "The word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword." That was about four o'clock in the afternoon. I lay down and evidently fell asleep at once.
