How to Learn

From the January 1952 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I tried in vain in lofty theme to learn,
Obscured the spirit for the letter's pride.
But now in meekness, listening, I yearn
To serve, and find Love's presence at my side.
God walks with me in quiet, lowly ways.
The guiding Truth I know when most aware
That answer comes to him who humbly prays;
For him unfailing Love is always there.
Now I rejoice to glimpse that simple peace
And see the wisdom of the Master's way.
The mind's tired quest for gain has found release
In patient immolation day by day.
My only need is learning how to be,
My need supplied in deep humility.
