Testimonies of Healing

I was brought up in the Protestant faith...

From the January 1952 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I was brought up in the Protestant faith, and as a young girl I often thought how wonderful it would be if the healings of Jesus' time could be experienced in the present day. My parents believed Christian Science had to do with will power, and they were antagonistic to it; and because I believed what I had heard of Mrs. Eddy, I was prejudiced against her.

While I was in college, I had a nervous breakdown. Medical treatment was given for some time, but it proved of no avail; then in desperation, and on the recommendation of a friend, my mother asked me to try Christian Science treatment. I had help from a practitioner, and in a week 1 was completely free.

However, I did not continue my interest in Christian Science at that time. Later I had a very serious eye infection and "suffered many things of many physicians" (Mark 5:26). At my mother's recommendation I again turned to this Science, and again my healing came in a week's time. My prejudice toward Mrs. Eddy entirely disappeared, and I was so uplifted that I wanted to know more concerning her religion. I bought a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and became so interested that I read it constantly. I was faithful with my daily reading and attended the church services regularly, and I tried to be obedient to the teachings of Christian Science, turning to it for the solution to every problem which came into my experience.
