Twenty-two years ago after I had failed to heal a badly infected hand through my then slight understanding of Christian Science, the services of an experienced practitioner were sought. The difficulty did not yield at once, and Christian Science treatment was continued. One night during this period I awoke and had trouble breathing. I opened Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and read until the struggle ceased and sleep came. The next night was not so difficult. The third night the struggle was very much less. The still small voice said, almost as if spoken aloud, "Error cannot change the state of being." That was an arresting fact to me. Happiness overwhelmed me, and I slept peacefully.
A few days later, while I was attending a service at the Christian Science Benevolent Association Sanatorium, the pressure in the hand lessened, and soon the hand was entirely healed. A friend of mine who is a surgeon told me that the hand would always be stiff, but it never was, and it is now as strong as ever.
Later, at a Wednesday evening testimony meeting in the Christian Science church which I regularly attend, I testified to the healing which had taken place. The statement given above, "Error cannot change the state of being," I was told two or three weeks later, had been very helpful to a Christian Science practitioner who had heard the testimony.
