I wish to express my gratitude for all that Christian Science has meant to me for over thirty-five years. I became interested in this Science through a healing I had when I was ten years old, and from that time it has been wholly relied on and has met my every need when correctly applied. I had the advantage of attending the Christian Science Sunday School, and for the early training it gave me in protecting myself through right thinking, I am very grateful.
A little over thirteen years ago I had a nervous breakdown and had to give up my work, which meant that my income stopped. I had no relatives to turn to, as they had all passed on. For two years I was unable to stand the noise and confusion of the street. During this time I had the help of a consecrated practitioner. His understanding, patience, and steadfastness healed me and brought me back to a normal, fruitful life. My supply came at first by my being in a home where I could help another in return for my room and board. As I grew stronger other avenues of employment opened until I was back at the work I was suited for. Let no one despair if it seems to take time for his demonstration to be made, for divine Love does heal. The way grows brighter as we press on, until we realize that our discordant experience was only a bad dream from which we have awakened stronger and with more understanding than before.
I was able to have class instruction from the consecrated teacher who had been my practitioner, and for this privilege I shall never cease to be grateful. Many healings, satisfying employment, harmonious human relationships, and home have come to me through the understanding and demonstration of Christian Science. My gratitude can be expressed only as I strive daily to do as Mrs. Eddy reminds us to do, when, after affirming that "as an active portion of one stupendous whole, goodness identifies man with universal good," she adds: "Thus may each member of this church rise above the oft-repeated inquiry, What am I? to the scientific response: I am able to impart truth, health, and happiness, and this is my rock of salvation and my reason for existing" (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 165).— Dayton, Ohio.
