Christian Science has given to me the truth of God and man, and it has met my every need for over twenty years. When it was first presented to me I was facing semi-invalidism with promise of only slight relief through an operation. A year before, I had lost a loved one and as a result was burdened with grief and despair. In addition my baby was frail and delicate as the result of bronchial pneumonia, and the doctor had given the verdict that it would be necessary to take him to a warmer climate.
At this time I bought Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, hoping to interest a member of the family who I feared might seek to take his own life. The book lay unopened, and the friend who had recommended my buying it advised that I study it myself. I did so, and words can never express my gratitude for the light of Truth that flowed into my consciousness, bringing the understanding of God which explains Jesus' healings and teachings. As the darkness of material beliefs fled and was replaced with the truth of man as God has created him, physical healing came for both me and the baby. Through the help of a practitioner the member of the family for whom I had bought Science and Health found great joy and peace. A complete change of his character was manifested and remarked upon by others.
I took steps to gain more unfoldment of Truth through membership in The Mother Church and a branch church. The blessing of class instruction from a consecrated teacher showed me more clearly how to live the truth I was learning. Great gratitude was felt for the wisdom expressed by Mrs. Eddy in giving to us the Manual of The Mother Church. In the measure that it was studied and obeyed as divine guidance for conduct in human affairs great spiritual growth followed. Healings of quinsy, neuritis, pneumonia, and the effects of automobile accidents were experienced. Some time after one accident my little son was carried into his Sunday School class, and in an hour he walked out healed.
