"THAT HAPPY DAY"

From the December 1953 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Mary Baker Eddy loved everybody. She included in this all-embracing interest tender affection for all mankind, particularly little children, and for the lesser creatures as well. She early thought that there must be a way out of the ills and perplexities of human existence, and she found this way. She exemplified the warmth of mother love when, in loyal devotion and consecration of purpose to her high ideal, she sought the way out for humanity. She was rewarded when she discovered the Science of Christ which underlay all the healings that Jesus performed. Divinely authorized, she set forth scientific, spiritual rules of healing in a textbook, to which she gave the name "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."

On page 55 of this book Mrs. Eddy writes: "Truth's immortal idea is sweeping down the centuries, gathering beneath its wings the sick and sinning. My weary hope tries to realize that happy day, when man shall recognize the Science of Christ and love his neighbor as himself,—when he shall realize God's omnipotence and the healing power of the divine Love in what it has done and is doing for mankind. The promises will be fulfilled. The time for the reappearing of the divine healing is throughout all time; and whosoever layeth his earthly all on the altar of divine Science, drinketh of Christ 's cup now, and is endued with the spirit and power of Christian healing."

When the hope of this God-inspired Leader and teacher is considered, should it not make the heart of every member of the Christian Science organization glow with gratitude that he may contribute to the fulfillment of her hope? May not this activity be considered by every church member as a golden opportunity to "recognize the Science of Christ and love his neighbor as himself," thus to "realize God's omnipotence and the healing power of the divine Love"?
