GOING ALL THE WAY

From the December 1953 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When we start out on a journey, we usually do so with the expectation of going all the way. Nevertheless, in human experience, obstacles, diversions, unforeseen circumstances, lack of determination, may prevent us from reaching our destination. There is, however, one journey which, once we have really undertaken it, requires us to go all the way. This is the journey Spiritward which sooner or later everyone must take. It is an infinitely progressive journey, and on it we are companioned by the Christ. Its destination is heaven, harmony, the complete realization of man's at-one-ment with God.

This journey Spiritward is undertaken and finally accomplished through the humble, prayerful study and practical application of the teachings of Christian Science. As a result of this study and practice, human consciousness learns to exchange the evidence before the material senses for spiritual reality, and as a result the truth of God and man is evidenced in demonstration.

To most of us, as we progress in the study of Christian Science, there comes a time when we realize that there can be no turning back—we must go all the way. We see that Christian Science is not an intellectual theory, but is divine, immutable law, declaring the eternal truth of God, divine Mind, and His spiritual creation. We also see that this Science of Christianity is a way of life which permits of no divided allegiance or lingering by the wayside. We must be full-time, not part-time, Christian Scientists.
