FROM GLORY TO GLORY

From the December 1953 issue of The Christian Science Journal

We glorify God when we catch a glimpse of His splendor, beauty, and power and live so as to express His qualities. We go from glory to glory as we catch clearer glimpses of reality.

Moses saw God as one God, the Supreme Being; and Christ Jesus said that we must love and adore God with all our heart and soul and mind, and love our neighbor as ourselves. In the fourth chapter of Revelation the beloved disciple, John, metaphorically describes the unfoldment that came to him of the wondrous glory and splendor of God's being. The revelation that came to him was so beautiful and luminous that it was beyond human language to express. In his endeavor to reveal it to the world, he likens the glory of God to the brilliance of precious stones and says that a rainbow was about the throne upon which God sat. He saw this vision through a door that was opened in heaven. This indicates the purely mental nature of his experience, for Jesus said that heaven is within us, is a state of consciousness. So John has pictured in glowing imagery what he saw as he realized the qualities of God, the infinite Being, and His universe, including man.

Today, through the teachings of Christian Science, we are able to glimpse the glory of God's being that came to John. Never before the discovery of Christian Science had there been recorded such a revelation of God's nature as this Science gives. When we grasp, even in a small way, what our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, has revealed to us of the nature and qualities of the infinite Being, we can then glimpse somewhat the glory of the revelation of God that came to John.
