For centuries men have carried on a ceaseless search for means of obtaining health and peace. Then why are sin and disease still apparent and strife between men and nations not abated? Because many have sought emancipation from these evils largely through matter or material means and by prayer to an "unknown god."
However, with the coming of Christian Science through its divinely inspired Discoverer and Founder, Mary Baker Eddy, the way of salvation from every mortal discord is made plain. This Science reveals the true nature of God. It declares that obedience to His law is the only sure means of escape, not only from physical maladies, but from all other forms of evil, whether social, ecclesiastical, or political; whether local, national, or global in scope. Mrs. Eddy says (Rudimental Divine Science, p. 10), "His law of Truth, when obeyed, removes every erroneous physical and mental state." God's law is thus not a mere abstraction far removed from human experience; it is a tangible and vital force which, when obeyed and utilized, makes whole the diseased, redeems the degenerate, binds up the brokenhearted, and enthrones peace and good will among men and nations.
Spirit operates through law. Through its graces it gives vitality to the law. Christ Jesus tells us that mercy, judgment, and faith are "the weightier matters of the law" (Matt. 23:23). It follows that when one expresses such God-derived qualities as meekness and mercy, affection and faith, humanity and honesty, he sees the operation of divine law in his present experience and receives the health and harmony which divine law bestows. These qualities evidence the irresistible spiritual force of God's law, which destroys the negative, lawless suggestions of doubt and fear, disease and death, sin and pain. They help to dispel the shades of night and to lift human thought to the full recognition of God's supremacy and healing power. The one whose consciousness is aglow with the light of pure love is proving that he is governed by divine law. He abides in the peace of Love and is at rest in the serenity of Soul.
