THE CHRISTIAN SCIENCE SUNDAY SCHOOL

From the December 1953 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christ Jesus evidenced an unusual interest in and love for children. He said (Mark 10:14), "Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God." And Mary Baker Eddy in her writings refers to children as beloved, precious, and dear.

An evidence of our Leader's great love for children and her lasting gift to them was her establishment of the Christian Science Sunday School. Divinely inspired, she gives in the Manual of The Mother Church (Art. XX) specific teaching instructions for the Sunday School, including the subject for lessons. This teaching procedure, followed in Christian Science Sunday Schools throughout the world, prevents the possible loss of the true sense of this all-important activity through its adulteration by human opinions and material teaching systems.

The Christian Science Sunday School represents the divine process of God, Mind, unfolding the truth to His ideas. Teachers, pupils, and officers participate equally in this activity. In learning of God, the one creator, the child is learning vitally important facts regarding his true self as the reflection of God. Such learning results in true growth and development, which cannot be obstructed, delayed, or prevented by any deceptive phase of mortal mind.
