About fourteen years ago, while attending a dinner party, I was stricken with a severe attack which a doctor diagnosed as a heart attack. The doctor referred to many medical laws, told me I would never enjoy the normal activities of life again, and suggested that I go to a sanatorium for a six months' rest. I refused to accept his verdict and dismissed him from the case.
I knew very little about Christian Science then, but I attended the church services occasionally. My husband, who was better grounded in this Science, contacted a practitioner, who assured him of God's care for all His children. Although the practitioner did not treat me, as I had not given my consent, her spirituality helped me, because my thought was receptive to her realization of the perfection of God's creation everywhere. Although I knew little of the operation of God's law, still I realized that a change was taking place within me. I knew there was a power greater than mortal mind which could and did control me. In three weeks I was up and around the house, and the fourth week I was back at my secretarial duties in the office where I was employed. I knew it was the law of God that had enabled me to progress so rapidly.
Three years later, prior to the birth of our son, my friends were all very fearful for me and thought I would never live through the experience of childbirth. To satisfy them I was thoroughly examined by two specialists, and both of them gave me a clean bill of health, stating that there was no indication I had ever had any heart trouble.
