I should like to express my deep gratitude for Christian Science. It has been my staff, my guide, and my comforter at all times. No matter how difficult the human situation has been, Christian Science has always brought me peace and healing when I have faithfully adhered to it. The need has always been for more spiritual growth, a more radical reliance on God, and a clearer sense of man's unity with divine Life. For the lessons learned along the way, I am profoundly grateful. The spiritual growth I have gained has proved of much greater value than the mere solution of human problems.
Some months ago I was informed by a dentist that my wisdom teeth were badly decayed and should be removed. As a student of Christian Science, I felt no fear, only gratitude for an opportunity to prove the omnipotence of God. I turned to Science and Health, in which Mrs. Eddy writes (pp. 109, 110): "The three great verities of Spirit, omnipotence, omnipresence, omniscience,—Spirit possessing all power, filling all space, constituting all Science,—contradict forever the belief that matter can be actual. These eternal verities reveal primeval existence as the radiant reality of God's creation, in which all that He has made is pronounced by His wisdom good."
Refusing to accept the material belief that bones in the mouth are more prone to decay than those in any other part of the body, I held to the truth that the real man has his being in Spirit, which has always been perfect and immortal, untouched by decay and material beliefs. I suffered no discomfort, and on my next visit to the dentist all my teeth were pronounced in excellent condition.
