Through spiritual understanding of the truths of Christian Science we find the solution of any human problem—physical, mental, or moral. Even though the situation may seem hopeless, one's duty is to use what he knows of the truth, however little that may be. He must stand firm on the fact that divine Love meets every human need through Christ, Truth, mankind's ever-present friend and Comforter. Mary Baker Eddy writes (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 368), "When we come to have more faith in the truth of being than we have in error, more faith in Spirit than in matter, more faith in living than in dying, more faith in God than in man, then no material suppositions can prevent us from healing the sick and destroying error."
The Christ-element, or power of the Word, which made Jesus the Messiah, and enabled him to overcome every material obstacle, is available to everyone. It renders any other so-called power impotent. It testifies constantly to man's dominion over the whole earth.
The knowledge that each one of us is identified with the Christ begins immediately to increase one's faith. And "faith," the apostle tells us (Hebr. 11:1), "is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." To gain through confidence in God's presence and power even a glimpse of spiritual reality is the heart, or substance, of demonstration. It identifies thought with God in any situation. What we recognize as improved human conditions is simply the evidence of the presence of the unseen realities of Spirit, evidence that the demonstration of at-one-ment with Spirit has been established.
