For years I have read hungrily the testimonies of healing in our periodicals. In the hope that my own experiences may help someone else I wish to give my testimony. I became acquainted with Christian Science during my first year of high school, when I went to Sunday School with some friends. An overwhelming conviction came to me that this was the place I wanted to go to from then on. Three months later, while alone at home, I unintentionally put the palm of my hand down firmly on top of a red-hot cookstove. I immediately sat down and prayed earnestly with the understanding I had gained at Sunday School. As a result, all pain ceased, and there was no evidence of a burn.
Later the time came when I realized that Christian Science and the drinking habit would not mix and that I would have to choose one or the other. The decision to give up liquor was made. My family was incredulous, and friends tried to ridicule me out of my decision. However, later some of them told me that they admired me for my stand. I have been grateful ever since for my decision, and I rejoice in my freedom from the liquor habit.
In athletic contests I tried to apply the teachings of Christian Science by loving my opponent and rejoicing in his good work. This removed all fear of losing and consequently made my performance relaxed and natural, enabling me to do my best and often to win.
