DIVINE TRUTH AND ITS APPLICATION TO HUMANITY

From the October 1955 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Jesus' willingness and ability not only to know God, but also to rebuke and correct the errors of human thought and action, earned him the title of Saviour of mankind. Mary Baker Eddy has made the demonstrable Science of Christ known and available to mankind in this age. She not only has revealed the absolute truth concerning God and man, but has also brought to humanity the understanding of how these truths are to be applied to correct and evangelize human consciousness, as well as to heal the sick.

Throughout her writings she iterates and reiterates the present spiritual perfection of God and His universe. However, she did not overlook the fact that human experience is the manifestation of that state of thought which Jesus likened to a field in which there seemed to be both truth and error, or in Biblical language, good seed and tares. Mrs. Eddy did not counsel the ignoring of the errors of human experience, wherein sickness and health, good and evil, Spirit and matter, seem to commingle, but she revealed Christ, Truth, which brings about the destruction of the errors and acts to preserve the good in a way that can only bless mankind. This is accomplished through the recognition that good alone is real and that evil or error is merely an illusive sense, a falsity, having no Principle, foundation, or permanence.

Mrs. Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 261), "Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts." Until the truth of being, the recognition of God as all-power, all-presence, all-health, and all-harmony, is accepted, human thought seems to be largely concerned with sickness, sin, devastation, war, and so forth. Christian Science reveals that evil is never the will of God, and that He has nothing to do with bringing evil to pass. Habakkuk tells us (1:13), "Thou [God] art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity." Through obedience to good, one can individually prove that Truth heals sickness, sin, lack, and inharmony.
