OUR BELOVED HYMNS

From the October 1955 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The Christian Science Hymnal is a book especially loved by Christian Scientists. By holding fast to the truths expressed therein, countless numbers have been healed, hearts uplifted, and problems solved.

In the version of the Hymnal now in use many of the verses were written purposely for the Hymnal by Christian Scientists, and are, therefore, entirely metaphysical in their expression of Christian Science. Seven of the hymns, furthermore, have words by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, with thirty-four different tunes in which to sing them.

In "Unity of Good" at the end of a colloquy between good and evil, our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, brings out with unequivocal logic the fact that we cannot, even in our hymns, speak of God's unchanging power and love and at the same time express belief in chance and change.
