Testimonies of Healing

From the October 1955 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The Psalmist sang (Ps. 9:2), "I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High." It is with great joy and gratitude that I give my testimony for all the comfort, inspiration, peace, and satisfaction that the study of Christian Science has brought to me. The healings I have had are many.

Our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, tells us in our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 449), "A grain of Christian Science does wonders for mortals, so omnipotent is Truth, but more of Christian Science must be gained in order to continue in well doing." When I began to study Christian Science, I was wearing glasses for reading. While reading the textbook, I felt guided to remove my glasses, and then I laid them aside. I did not need them any more and have not needed them since. This has been a permanent healing of defective eyesight. I was grateful not only for the healing, but particularly for the spiritual enlightenment, inspiration, and encouragement received from this proof of God's healing power.

Of the many proofs of God's presence that I have received in Christian Science, one stands out, and I should like to share it with others. Some friends and I had been to a Church of Christ, Scientist, one Sunday morning and afterwards went to a nearby inn for our Sunday dinner. I left my coat in a friend's room upstairs at the inn and started to walk down the long flight of narrow stairs. On the second stair from the top I suddenly lost my balance and began to fall. I was not fearful, however, as my thought had been uplifted at the church service. Instantly this truth came to me (Science and Health, p. 471): "God is infinite, therefore ever present, and there is no other power nor presence."
