COUNTERACTING PLANETARY INFLUENCE

From the February 1957 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Within the past decade, research and invention have quickened interest in the plausibility of trips in spaceships to the moon and to Mars. As a result, today more than ever before, mankind in general follows with interest each new step of progress toward interplanetary travel.

Yet there is another phase of interrelation with the heavenly bodies which needs consideration. This is the world belief in an occult influence of the planets over mankind and the universe. Astrology, which propagates this theory that the position of the sun, the stars, the moon, and the planets can influence and control human affairs and determine one's destiny, is not, of course, to be confused with astronomy.

Even though as individuals we may discredit the belief that events in our lives or in the lives of others can be predicted or determined by any astral influence, we cannot afford merely to ignore astrology and its suppositional power. Since many of the peoples of the earth do believe in such occult force and turn to it for explanation of the events in their lives, it is important that we protect ourselves against being influenced by the beliefs of astrology.
