Testimonies of Healing

About the year 1910 Christian Science...

From the August 1957 issue of The Christian Science Journal

About the year 1910 Christian Science was recommended to my mother as a means of healing me of a large internal growth on the side of my neck. The efforts of three doctors in our town had failed to bring relief. They and a specialist prescribed an operation without delay.

At this point Christian Science was presented, and an appointment was made with a practitioner listed in the telephone book. The practitioner accepted the case and lovingly showed us how to study the weekly Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly. In a matter of ten days or so the healing was complete, and the condition has never returned.

A few years later, when my brother and I were in high school, he was stricken with polio. A relative who was visiting us and who had studied to be a doctor wished to be helpful but made it very difficult for my mother, who was determined to rely completely on Christian Science. However, my mother maintained, without wavering, her decision to do so, and no medical aid was given at any time. One afternoon the local doctor called to make certain that the state health code regarding possible contagion was being observed. Seeing my brother completely helpless, he said that the boy could not possibly live through the night.

My mother telephoned a practitioner in a nearby city, and as a result of her work my brother was restored to health and physical activity, as was evidenced by the fact that he was back in school in two weeks' time. Later he was sent to a larger high school in a nearby city, where he finished four years of school in three years and became an outstanding athlete, winning the school letters in football, basketball, and track. This was just one of many proofs to us that Christian Science not only heals physical ills but enlarges and enhances one's capabilities.

Our two daughters, now in their twenties, have never had a contagious disease, although they have been exposed to a number of epidemics during their school years. Neither have they ever been inoculated, for Christian Science has provided them with complete immunization. Difficult school problems have been solved through the study and application of this Science.

At the age of forty-eight, I decided to return to full-time business activity. Serving as Sunday School superintendent at the time, I was doing more study than usual on the synonyms for God, especially Principle —undeviating, unchanging, orderly, perfect Principle, which admits of no loss, no imperfection whatsoever. A civil service examination was presented at this time, and it included the taking of dictation on an educational subject at one hundred and twenty words per minute. It was twenty years since I had taken dictation, and that was on legal, trust, and mortgage matters. There was no time for review and practice. Nevertheless, all the dictation was taken and transcribed, and I received a high grade on that entire examination as well as on two others.

A position was offered to me immediately, and four promotions in fourteen months entailed a complete change of activity and personnel each time. The fourth position was one generally disliked and avoided by others. When I left it, my immediate superior said that never in her fifteen years had she seen such a record of accuracy.

For these and many other experiences in Christian Science, I am very grateful. However, I am most grateful for the explanation of God and of man's relation to Him, which Mrs. Eddy gives us in Science and Health.—

I wish to verify the testimony of my daughter and to express my gratitude for Christian Science. When I became acquainted with this Science, I found I no longer needed the daily remedies I had taken for years because of numerous ailments. I also found the answers to questions which had troubled me from the time I joined an orthodox church. Membership in The Mother Church, the help of consecrated practitioners, and the privilege of class instruction have been of great benefit to me.—
