Christian Scientists in their association with each other sometimes hear it said by one who has been endeavoring unsuccessfully to rise above some physical or financial difficulty: "I cannot understand why this problem is not met, for I have held steadfastly to the teachings of the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy and have struggled to the best of my ability to live in accordance with what I know to be true. Yet the difficulty seems so aggressive and refuses to yield. What am I doing or, perhaps, not doing that is responsible for my failure to prove my dominion?"
A reason for one's struggles to overcome the various claims of error is that one is, for the time being, consciously or unconsciously convinced that the error is true, that it exists and possesses intelligence and power to enslave or afflict him. To gain his freedom, he must awaken to the fact that because God, good, the creator of the universe, including man, is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent, nothing evil can possibly exist to interfere with the health, happiness, and harmony of man.
Throughout the Bible and the inspired writings of Mrs. Eddy, the indestructible and harmonious relationship of God and man, Father and son, Mind and idea, cause and effect, is repeatedly emphasized. The necessity of persistently maintaining the truth of this spiritual relationship in individual consciousness is also stressed. We must exclude the falsely educated belief in the existence of a mind or power opposite to God, a power which has hitherto been admitted into thought and believed to be true.
