"It is high time to awake out of sleep:...

From the September 1957 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"It is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light" (Rom. 13:11, 12). I feel it is high time that I bear witness to the light that has called me out of darkness and brightened my life with its rich blessings and tender mercies, namely the light of Christian Science.

About fifteen years ago I was in the depths of despair. A most difficult childbirth had injured me and left me so weak that I could not care for my baby son. My husband was suffering from a duodenal ulcer, and my four-year-old daughter was about to lose the sight of one eye.

Like an angel of mercy, my mother, who was a Christian Scientist, came to our aid. She made me realize that there is always a way out of every difficulty, for God is willing to help us if only we will turn to Him. She had brought some copies of the Christian Science Sentinel and of The Christian Science Journal for me to read. I read an article in a Sentinel which had this quotation (Ps. 119:105): "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." I knew that I must study God's Word in order to find the way out of darkness and despair.
