From the September 1957 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The desire of sincere students of Christian Science is to gain more spiritual understanding and thereby to prove in ever-increasing measure the healing and regenerating power of Truth. Eagerly students search the Scriptures and the writings of the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, in their efforts to unite their thoughts with God. They know that only through spiritual understanding can they align themselves with true power. The desire for spiritual understanding is prayer, and its results are evidenced by our demonstrations of the truth, which show beyond any doubt the power and presence of God. Fruitage is always certain when God, Spirit, is recognized as the only governor of man.

Through striving to understand the relationship of God and man, His individualized' expression, we soon see that in order to progress we must dismiss false traits of character. Mrs. Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 14): "Entirely separate from the belief and dream of material living, is the Life divine, revealing spiritual understanding and the consciousness of man's dominion over the whole earth. This understanding casts out error and heals the sick, and with it you can speak 'as one having authority.' "

We prove the truth of this statement in our daily experience proportionately as we live up to our highest understanding of Christian Science. Through our rejection of error and by our efforts to live in accordance with divine law, we find that every step of our endeavor is protected and directed by divine Love.
