Again and again the Bible describes the grace of God as a gift freely given through Christ Jesus. Paul wrote to the Ephesians (2:4–8): "God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ. . . . For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God."
Centuries later Mary Baker Eddy, in speaking of Jesus' rising to the fullness of his stature in Christ and his seeing the Son of man in divine Science, writes in her Message to The Mother Church for 1901 (p. 11), "Through this redemptive Christ, Truth, we are healed and saved, and that not of our selves, it is the gift of God."
Because of the gift of grace, the teachings of Christian Science have come to mankind. They show us the Christ, Truth, as God revealed it to Mrs. Eddy. They teach that Spirit is All-in-all and that man is God's perfect image and likeness. If our Leader had resisted or refused to accept the truth which came to her through God's grace, mankind would not have learned that man is not a sinner, but the child of God.
