MAN'S HAPPINESS

From the May 1958 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"HARMONY is produced by its Principle, is controlled by it and abides with it. Divine Principle is the Life of man. Man's happiness is not, therefore, at the disposal of physical sense." So writes Mary Baker Eddy on page 304 of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."

Is it not glorious to learn that true happiness is not at the disposal of human circumstances, that it is entirely independent of person, place, or thing? Because Principle, or God, is the rock upon which all happiness is founded, it is forever stable and secure, constant and continuous, completely spiritual.

It is apparent that the truly happy individual is one who consistently acknowledges God to be All-in-all, all-inclusive, all-power, the only Life and Mind. The good or evil which we accept as actually present determines our state of happiness. One who is really convinced of the truth, presented by Christian Science, that infinite good is all because infinite good is God, must of necessity be joyous and grateful. He recognizes this truth (Christian Science Hymnal Hymn No. 72): "Endless thanks to God belong."
