"WHO hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?" (Isa. 40:12.) Does not the prophet's question refer to God's law of equipoise?
Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 124): "Adhesion, cohesion, and attraction are properties of Mind. They belong to divine Principle, and support the equipoise of that thought-force, which launched the earth in its orbit and said to the proud wave, 'Thus far and no farther.'"
Equipoise or balance is essential to the order and rhythm of the universe. It manifests itself as harmony in our bodies and their environment. Universal balance and order were implied by Jesus in the Lord's Prayer (Matt. 6:10): "Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven."
