Since the dawn of civilization, the query as to the origin, nature, and destiny of man has engaged the attention of sages and scholars. Generally speaking, mankind has looked for the answer in every direction except the right one, namely in the first chapter of Genesis, where it is recorded that man was created by God in His image. Since God is Spirit, man expresses God in perfect, spiritual being.
The Psalmist sang (Ps. 8:4, 6): "What is man, that thou art mindful of him? . . . Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands."
But what of the man that the material senses present for mankind's acceptance? As revealed in Christian Science, this so-called man is only a caricature, a counterfeit, of the man of God's creating. This counterfeit has no real origin, its nature is contradictory, and it is destined to be laid aside when spiritual perception unveils in consciousness the true man.
