I first became interested in Christian Science as a result of seeing the happy faces of the many people coming out of a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, after the Wednesday evening testimony meetings.
When I went to work in the head office of the firm which had employed me in my home city, I learned that one of my coworkers was a student of Christian Science. She invited me to a lecture given by a member of The Christian Science Board of Lectureship, and I can say that from that time on, my life became brighter and happier. I knew all the while I listened to the lecturer that this was the religion I had been searching for. I attended the Christian Science church regularly after that, both Sundays and Wednesdays, but did little studying, though I did read the Bible Lesson from the Quarterly from time to time.
Since I had not become interested in Science for a healing of disease, I still used medicine for minor ailments instead of relying on Truth. After drifting along in this way for about seven years, I wakened one morning with a heart condition that made me very fearful. I called a Christian Science practitioner whom I had never met, and her first words were a reminder that Jesus tells us, "Be not afraid" (Matt. 14:27).
