In the year 1901 my mother was introduced to Christian Science, and she readily accepted its teachings because they gave her a satisfying explanation of God as demonstrated by Christ Jesus. Devoted study of the Bible and of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy soon enabled her to prove the healing efficacy of the truths therein.
Colds, asthma, burns, wounds, smallpox, appendicitis, so-called children's diseases, and bone fractures are among the discords that have been healed in our family through an understanding of God. He was confidently depended on at all times, and I count as my greatest blessing that of being reared in a Christian Science home.
When my sister was about four years old, she was healed of asthma. Several members of my mother's family suffered from this disease, and. it was accepted by them as hereditary. One day the asthma seemed much worse than usual, and my mother affirmed the truth that God's child, His spiritual image and likeness, can inherit only good. She knew that "God created man in his own image" and that "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good" (Gen. 1:27, 31). Many statements from the Bible and Science and Health were cited, and my sister was completely healed that day.
