REGARDLESS of evils seen in the changing forms of matter—disease, sin, and seeming death—the supremacy of God, Spirit, remains untouched. "The mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed," recorded Isaiah (54:10), "but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the Lord that hath mercy on thee."
The inspired writings of the Bible not only assure us of the omnipresence and omnipotence of Spirit but include many proofs of this supremacy, notably those furnished by Jesus. When he healed the sick, stilled the storm, fed the multitude, he rejected the common belief that matter is real. He acknowledged only the supremacy of Spirit. Material laws were proved to be no laws at all when, through his spiritual understanding, he demonstrated the divine law and raised the dead.
Jesus' mastery of matter was not dependent upon the conditions of his time. These were not more conducive to healing than present-day conditions are. Mortal mind, or matter, assumed the same old arguments, namely that matter constitutes mankind and the universe, that matter controls the body and is a power to be reckoned with. Error fled because Jesus uncompromisingly stood for the truth of the omnipotence and omnipresence of Spirit, the supreme power over all forms of material resistance.
