THE POWER OF PRAYER

From the September 1965 issue of The Christian Science Journal

THE prayers of Christ Jesus were potent. They were based on his understanding of man's unity with God and of man's likeness to Him. Through his clear understanding of God and of man as God's reflection, Jesus healed the sick and raised the dead. The spiritual understanding of the unity of God and man gives power to prayer today as it did in Jesus' time.

We demonstrate the power of prayer as we live in obedience to God. Obedience to God is the continuous recognition of good as the only reality. Obedience is based on a right understanding of God as Spirit, as Love, as All-in-all.

In proportion as we know the divine nature and love God through spiritual understanding, not blind belief, we demonstrate obedience to God. Then as the truth unfolds in our consciousness, we become aware of the answer to our prayer.
