In order to demonstrate harmony in individual experience, in family experience, and in society as a whole, we must be aware of the spiritual forces that sustain harmony. Mrs. Eddy says: "We tread on forces. Withdraw them, and creation must collapse. Human knowledge calls them forces of matter; but divine Science declares that they belong wholly to divine Mind, are inherent in this Mind, and so restores them to their rightful home and classification."Science and Health, p. 124;
It is only as we begin to understand that there is one God, one Mind, that we can find the spiritual forces that are the very fabric of peace and harmony. Here is a realm of research and development that is vastly important to the future of mankind. When questioned about basic law, Jesus quoted these words from the Old Testament: "The Lord our God is one Lord: and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength....Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."Mark 12:29–31;Within these laws we find the spiritual forces that enable us to demonstrate freedom from sin and disease and to realize God's government.
The oneness of God is a spiritual force. The fact that there is one God, one creator, establishes the unity of being. This affects both the individual and society. Man as the child of God is not made up of conflicting forces. He is a unit. He reflects integrity, harmony, consistency. Because he expresses the oneness of divine Principle, he is held intact; he is guided, protected, sustained. He lives in God as His idea. As we love God and adhere to our divine Principle, we shall be able to overcome fear, destroy sin, and demonstrate the healing power of Christian Science.
